Standing Committee on Justice Policy Regarding Bill 175

Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Queen's Park, Toronto ~ March 5, 2018

The government of Ontario has introduced Bill 175 as a legislative measure intended to significantly modify the way policing is undertaken in the province. The proposed legislation, Bill 175, the Safer Ontario Act, 2017, will repeal and replace the existing Police Services Act (PSA) and introduce several new statutes and regulations designed to address accountability, oversight and community safety. While no drafting process is perfect, here you will listen to Elie Labaky's objections with certain sections of the proposed Bill. Elie believes not only in defending police officer's rights on a case by case basis, but also at the municipal and provincial levels. We thank members of all political parties for their questions and valuable input in efforts to strengthen relationships with all stakeholders.
