Services

Let me begin by acknowledging that if you are looking for a lawyer, the process may quickly become overwhelming. The idea that you might even need help is unsettling, but I want the discomfort to stop there. I believe that the greatest value I provide to my clients has little to do with my years of experience, education, and track record. My greatest value to you is peace of mind, knowing that I will commit every resource I have to defending you. This is what separates me from the rest and remains my commitment.
Below is a list of frequent services that I provide. Every client is unique and will require an equally unique strategy to address their specific defence.

Areas of Practice
- Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Charges
We defend subject officers that are under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and witness officers involved in incidents under investigation by the SIU. Typically, the SIU's mandate is invoked when police actions result in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault. The SIU's powers stem directly from section 113 of the Police Services Act and the related regulations O. Reg. 267/10 Conduct and Duties of Police Officers Respecting Investigations by the Special Investigations Unit.
Do you believe that your employer has breached your rights under the Human Rights Code of Ontario? These breaches are not always as subtle as, for example, racially derogatory "jokes", sexual harassment, or discrimination in accommodation due to a disability. The vast majority of these breaches under the Code are disguised in unfair and arbitrary discipline, breach of internal policy, favoritism in promotions, or unreasonable accommodations. Breaches of the Code carry serious consequences for an employer found to be engaging in discriminatory behavior. Contact us now and we will assess your case.
- Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) Complaint
Public complaints filed with the OIPRD can lead to an internal investigation by your employer or an investigation by the OIPRD. If you are advised that you are under investigation or charged, we strongly recommend you speak directly to a lawyer so that you are aware from the beginning as to your rights moving forward. This can be a very stressful time, do not delay.
- Chief's Complaint
You may have been notified that a you are under investigation by your service's Professional Standards Section as a result of Chief's Complaint. This type of complaint can stem from internal misconduct or a public complainant. It is important that you understand the process, your rights, and obligations moving forward.
- Labour Grievance
If you believe that your rights under the collective agreement have been breached, we strongly recommend you seek the assistance and advice of your association prior to contacting us. Association representatives or labour officers employed by your association have an in-depth understanding of your collective agreement and your rights included therein. If you still have concerns, you have the right to seek the assistance of a lawyer for a second independent opinion either through your association, or on your own.
- Wills and Estates
Having a will is arguably one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family. Not only can a will legally protect your spouse, children, and assets, it can also spell out exactly how you would like things handled after you have passed on. I offer a package for a will, power of attorney for property, and power of attorney for you, your family, and close friends.
